We all know that elderly person that should not be driving any longer but how do you approach that conversation? Families can be often divided over the issue of mom or dad's ability to drive. Why not bring in a third party, with no emotional connection to your family's history, to help ease the stress. Better yet, a person that is trained and certified by a state highway patrolman.
We are very proud to have been certified by a program designed to assist families in determining the level of safety involved in their loved ones’ driving abilities. We make this as easy as possible by coming to you. A test is administered to determine reaction times, driver safety knowledge, memory, and general cognitive skills. As long as there is a passing grade, your loved one gets to prove their skills on the road with our professional. No simulations and no assumptions. Find out more about what to expect below: |
What areas do you service?
Our home care services area generally limited to the Greater Akron area, but our driver assessments can take place well outside of Akron! We can travel to Cleveland, Canton, Medina, and so much more. Not sure if you're in range? Just call!
Do i need to be a lily home care client?
You do not need to be a client of Lily Home Care and we will not even mention home care unless you ask! We don't want to overwhelm your parents during such a stressful time. We will however gladly offer advice if deemed appropriate.
Can i use your company for assessments if i already have home care somewhere else?
Yes! We are there to focus on one thing, your loved one's safety. Home care does not even need to be mentioned unless you have questions. We are currently the only home care agency in the Akron area to provide this services and wish to provide it to anyone that needs it, regardless of where they get their care.
what are the biggest issues involved with this topic?
The idea of no longer driving can be met with reluctance and defensiveness concerning loss of independence, personal freedom, emotional dignity and family status. Depression many times follows the loss of car keys if a proper plan is not put in place for alternative transportation.
It can also be very trying for the adult children, causing concern regarding safety and financial risks as well as responsibility for transportation and personal needs. If you drive and you are aging, have an aging member of your household who drives or know someone whose family is in need of this resource, please feel free to contact us any time.
